Treatment of Hemorrhoids – 5 Do’s and Don’ts
Filed under: General; No CommentsLiving with hemorrhoids is truly miserable. Itching, burning, pain, swelling and bleeding. Not to mention the embarrassment of it all. Are you fed up of trying ointment after ointment only to find that it was a quick fix and you have to buy more? Or worse still have the medications made your hemorrhoids worse? Don’t worry. There is light at the end of the tunnel. In this article you will learn 5 do’s and don’ts for the successful treatment of hemorrhoids.
Hemorrhoids are inflamed veins or blood vessels in the lower rectum. Although pregnancy and aging can cause them, they are mainly caused by straining when passing a stool, by being constipated. Get rid of constipation and you will be half way to avoiding these nasty little monsters and reducing the symptoms you already have. Simple eh? Here’s my 5 do’s and don’ts to help you to do just that.
1. Do… eat a fiber rich diet such as vegetables, nuts, whole grains and wheat bran to bulk out the stools and citrus fruits, apples, barley, psyllium and flax seeds to soften the stool. You should be striving for the easy passing of soft stools. Not being constipated is perhaps the best treatment of hemorrhoids you can have!
Do not… eat highly spiced foods, fatty foods, red meats, over processed foods. This kind of food just irritates your piles and makes the symptoms worse. To get rid of the little monsters, you will, I’m afraid have to compromise on what you eat, but I tell you now, it will all be worth it!
2. Do… drink plenty of water. This will make the stools softer and will mean that you are not straining when you pass a stool.
Do not… drink alcohol, tea and alcohol in excess. This will dehydrate you and lead to hard stools and more straining.
3. Do… squat when you go to the bathroom to relieve yourself. This means that the anal canal is as it should be-straight and eliminates straining. Squatting is said to be natural prevention when it comes to hemorrhoids
Do… not sit on the toilet seat, comfortable or cosy as it may be. This causes the anal canal to be bent out of shape when it is supposed to be straight. Remember that straining is what probably caused the hemorrhoid problem in the first place.
4.Do… relax in a sitz bath of luke warm water and Epson salt. Doing this 3-4 times a day will be very soothing and will keep this very delicate area nicely cleansed.
Do not… lift anything heavy or do strenuous exercise. This will make your hemorrhoids worse.
5. Do not… use conventional hemorrhoid products. Many of the pills and ointments contain harsh chemicals that can give you side-effects such as headaches, nausea and diarrhea and just bring about a temporary fix.
Do… use natural products for any additional treatment of hemorrhoids. Kind to your purse, natural hemorrhoid home remedies are so simple to prepare and have safe, reliable ingredients in them. They will not bring about any side-effects and once you know what works for you, your hemorrhoids become a thing of the past. Ice is an amazing treatment of hemorrhoids. Placed on the area, it will shrink the size of the hemorrhoid and relieve pain and bleeding. Your health food store will stock excellent herbal products that are specifically for hemorrhoids. Look for ones with Witch Hazel, Butcher’s Broom or horse Chestnut in them.
